About Chinese Art and Painting

Chinese Ink Painting (also known as Chinese Brush Painting) is one of oldest art form in the World. This art form has been practised in China a few hundred years ago and many mediums are still in use today.  Indeed, this Art is using traditional Chinese Ink grinding process, Chinese Brushes, Stone seal, and Rice papers since Qing dynasty. The materials are water, ink and rice papers. There is no oil or binder to be added on. Hence, it is known in Chinese as Water and Ink painting. When colours were introduced later, it is also called Colours and Ink Painting. In short, most people refer as Chinese  Brush Painting.

In the past, Chinese Art is primarily in black or white because of use of ink and paper only. It is also using the same materials and techniques with Chinese Calligraphy. It is therefore interchangeable use of writing for painting in Chinese Art.
