In addition, Art Therapy helps to improve quality of life for patients and their caregivers. As a prevention, Art Therapy helps strengthening our brain, de-stress, building cognitive reserve, relaxation and rejuvenation. It is a subtle and expressive form of visual communication and wellness journey uniquely.

What is Dementia

According to National Institute of Aging: Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning, thinking, remembering, and reasoning; and behavioral abilities to such an extent that it interferes with a person's daily life and activities. These functions include memory, language skills, visual perception, problem solving, self-management, and the ability to focus and pay attention.

Some people with dementia cannot control their emotions, and their personalities may change. Dementia ranges in severity from the mildest stage, when it is just beginning to affect a person's functioning, to the most severe stage, when the person must depend completely on others for basic activities of living

The causes of dementia can vary, depending on the types of brain changes that may be taking place. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia in older adults. Other dementias include Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal disorders, and vascular dementia. It is common for people to have mixed dementia with a combination of two or more types of dementia. For example, some people have both Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia.

Art Therapy Fee

Single drop-in session is S$80/= nett for trial or assessment, inclusive of art supplies, 1.5 hours.
Monthly Package Fee is S$218/= (for up to 4 weekly sessions, 1.5 hours per session), excluding any art supplies. Please bring along your own preferred art materials (eg. paper, pencil, coloured pencils, watercolour paint, etc.) or you may purchase them at our art studio.

How to Register Art Therapy

Please call and check timeslot available. Once available, you can book a session and payment can be on cash or cheque, bank transfer or Credit card. For institutions, hospitals or community, please contact us.

Confidentiality

By default, Art Therapy sessions are strictly confidential unless otherwise they might be harmful or post a danger to self, group, any person or the public. Written consent will be obtained to release any of the artworks or information to the public. Art therapist will treat all discussion and art works as personal and private for treatment purpose only.

The Art Therapist

It is not an art therapy without an Art Therapist. It is because the skills, knowledge, training and experience of an art therapist is essential to facilitate, support,  appropriatre treatment, intervention and for positive result.Verbal communication is secondary in art therapy session because ART is a visual communication. Indeed, the Art Therapist can provide insights and accurate information about the art that you have created. Art is also an effective form of expression and communication. Clients can choose whether sharing about their artworks to the therapist. The effectiveness of Art Therapy is also subject to the Art Therapist experience, knowhow and appropriate intervention.

About Art Therapist

Art Therapy program and treatment are facilitated by Mastered level Art Therapist - Mr. Lee Thiam Seng (Paul). Mr. Lee is an artist, art teacher, art therapist, consultant and founder of UniqArts and Technologies in 1995. Mr. Lee holds a Masters of Art in Art Therapy from LaSalle College of the Arts and a Bachelor Degree in Management from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia. He has been practicing Art Therapy since 2009. His experience including individual and group art therapy treatment for pupils at Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN), women with breast cancer at KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH), psychotic patients at Changi General Hospital (CGH) Psychiatric Ward, older adults (geriatric) at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital's (KWSH) Day Rehabilitative Center and Geriatric Day Hospital (GDH) at CGH. Mr. Lee conducted a research at KKH with Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval for his Art Therapy masters thesis: "Art Therapy as a Modality of Healing in Stages - For Women with Breast Cancer." Mr. Lee also integrated Taichi exercise with Art Therapy, Team Building through art and creativity and Healing Art Therapy.
